RYA Level One & Level Two courses
Introduction
Sutton Bingham Sailing Club is a great place to learn to sail – or sail better. We are an RYA Recognised Training Centre. Sutton Bingham Sailing Club is the ideal place to learn to sail and the RYA National Sailing Scheme is the best way to get into the sport. We have a great team of very experienced instructors who will make the whole course fun for you.
The courses are held over two days -Saturday and Sunday and are open to members of the Club and non members. We run the level 1 courses with a maximum of 2 beginners to 1 Instructor in a Laser 2000 dinghy.

Courses we can offer
RYA Level 1 – Beginners
Age: 16+
Dinghy: Laser2000 with an instructor sailing with you
Course content: How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering.
Ability after the course: Able to sail in light winds under supervision
Pre-requisite: None, but please note dinghy sailing is a physically active sport and a certain level of balance and physical agility is required, if you have any concerns please speak to our training manager.
RYA Level 2
Age: 16+
Dinghy: Laser 2000
Course content: Rigging, launching, sailing in all directions. Capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.
Ability after the course: Able to sail and make decisions in good conditions.
Pre-requisite: Sailing skills to the standard of Level 1.
RYA Level 3 – Improvers
Age: 16+
Dinghy: Laer 2000 or ILCA
Course content: Further coaching to consolidate Level 1 and 2 skills and taster sessions from the advanced modules.
Ability after the course: More confident in sailing skills and techniques, and ready to progress onto the advanced modules e.g. starting racing or using spinnakers.
Pre-requisite: Sailing skills to the standard of Level 2.

What you need:
Towel
Closed toe shoes that can get wet.
Suncream and hat
Wet weather clothes incase of inclement weather.
Wetsuit or old clothes that can get wet (no jeans).
Change of clothes
Food:
We recommend bringing a packed lunch and drinks. We usually have a small galley open on Sundays, which serves hot food, cold drinks, sweets, tea and coffee. On Saturdays the galley is closed but we have facilities to make hot drinks and a microwave if you want hot food at lunchtime.
