If you have one of SBSC’s annual trophies please can you
return them to the Clubhouse by the end of sailing next Sunday
(16th October) so that we have them ready for the prize giving on the 22nd.
Good news…..The Cold Turkey event will be going ahead on Sunday with a Festive Spread kindly laid on by Julia Green and a race (of sorts) arranged by our Race Officer.
Following Government advice the following precautions will be taken to help protect everyone attending and their families, friends and co-workers:
1. All doors and windows will remain open in the clubhouse to ensure good air flow. This means it will probably be cold so please bring warm clothes!
2. Hand sanitiser will be available – so please do use it. Its not the horrible sticky kind!
3. Please be mindful of the social distancing rules and apply them wherever reasonably possible.
4. Please consider taking a Lateral Flow Test in the morning particularly you have been in contact with people from other areas of the country and you’re planning to use the clubhouse or changing rooms. Don’t come if you get a positive result or if you have symptoms – for Delta a persistent cough, loss of or change to sense of smell or taste and a high temperature, for Omicron a sore throat, congestion, body aches and a temperature (anecdotal evidence).
Despite these measures we hope you’ll come and enjoy the sailing, the food, the drink and the company.
Best wishes from
All on the Sutton Bingham Sailing Club Committee
With South Somerset now placed in Tier 4, the associated restrictions mean that the Club must discontinue its programme of sailing with immediate effect. Although the rules allow individuals to sail for exercise. the need for safety cover and other infrastructure support mean that organisation would be required, thus negating this exception. Organised outdoor sport for under 18s and disabled people is permissible, however, we do not have any of these activities planned for early 2021. As in the past, the Club will keep the situation under close review and monitor the vital guidance provided by the RYA. As soon as it is possible to resume sailing, we will ensure that arrangements are made to re-start activities quickly and to the maximum extent of the relaxations granted.
Meanwhile, members may enter the Club’s premises for essential maintenance or boat movements only, bearing in mind that travelling is restricted, other than for essential purposes, and for short distances only.
Despite this latest development, we can now look forward to a rapid vaccination programme starting next week and a return to something like normality by spring or early summer.
Meanwhile, keep safe and remember: hands, face, space.
With best wishes for 2021.

Today James Harcourt (thanks James for your help), and I have spent a couple of hours sorting out the dinghy park. All boats are now in their correct spaces so some of you might find your boats in a different place than you left it. Please do not re-locate your boat to a other spaces without prior permission from me, this includes winter members.
OOD’s if anyone turns up unannounced with a boat and they DO NOT know what their allocated space is, then ask them to contact me ASAP. You may direct them to park their boat in ROW K from space number K17 and beyond (K16 has a phantom in it). Please do not tell people to put their boats in any empty spaces as most of the spaces in Row R, J, B, C, D, E, F, L, M are allocated. If in doubt please contact me direct or ask James Harcourt for assistance.
