All the above had a good sail to blow the Christmas Cobwebs away along with a few members who came to watch.  A buffet lunch was put on by the Club served by Wendy Jackson.  My thanks to Matthew Twitchen for being my OOD partner.

THERE WILL BE SAILING NEXT SUNDAY 1st JANUARY as members present today said they would be OODs.

Merry Christmas & the Cold Turkey

It has warmed up, slightly, and the forecast for the 26th is good.

We have OODs, the Galley staffed (thank you Wendy) and one race starting at 11.00.  decorations and fancy dress optional (think safety).
Fun prizes and the usual Boxing Day spread for competitors and members just out for a breath of fresh air.  Come and check out your boat even if you are not going to sail.  Come and show your boat to your family – we will be sailing in 2023!
Hope you all have a good Christmas,
Nigel Leveridge

Ice Ice Baby

Its gotten that cold that the pond is starting to freeze over around the pontoons. Shouldn’t be an issue for Sunday off the weather forecast is correct as the temperature is set to rise…wind might be up a bit.

Duties for 2023

Sunday duties for 2023 are now available for volunteering in DutyMan. Unfortunately the Sailing Calendar has yet to be completed so there are several “To Be Confirmed” events/dates in the roster. Please note that other events may also be added or removed or amended and these details will be included in DutyMan as and when they become available.

Saturdays have not been uploaded pending a decision by the Main Committee as to how many (if any) Saturdays should have OOD cover in 2023.
Individual members are obliged to volunteer for at least 2 duties per annum and family members where 2 adults sail are obliged to volunteer for at least 3 duties per annum.
Members who have done only 1 duty in 2022 are expected to volunteer for at least 3 duties in 2023.

RNLI visit the AGM

A surprise visitor to the AGM was Peter Burrows, who chairs the local branch of the RNLI. The RNLI event, held recently at the Club, raised a total of £457-90 in donations and the sale of goods. Peter stated that he was representing the Chief Executive of the RNLI – Mark Bowie and noted that it was 25 years since Bryan Martyn presented a certificate to SBSC on behalf of the RNLI. Peter described a conversation with the team from Lyme Regis, who came with an RNLI shop and who helped with the prize giving for the event. Apparently, they commented that Sutton Bingham was “one of the friendliest, liveliest, most cheerful and active clubs that they have been to”. They said that they had really enjoyed their visit and asked Peter to compliment the members who were present on that day. Peter also complimented the Club on 50 years of fund raising on behalf of the RNLI. Finally, Peter presented a certificate to the Club along with his thanks for all that SBSC has done for the RNLI over the last 50 years.

Please note that problems have been reported with the engine on Safety Boat number 3.

Please do not use it otherwise the engine may be damaged beyond repair.

It is currently moored on Buoy No. 8 to speed up access if it can be repaired on the water. Low water means that recovery on shore is a bit of a challenge so there may be a delay.

We’ll post again when the engine has been fixed.

If you have one of SBSC’s annual trophies please can you
return them to the Clubhouse by the end of sailing next Sunday
(16th October) so that we have them ready for the prize giving on the 22nd.
